Mid-Atlantic Nature Therapy
Where have you wandered? Where will you wander? What’s all this wondering about wandering anyways? Will it do us any good?
I believe the answer is yes. It has been said that the unexamined life is not worth living. I don’t believe that to be true—life is worth living—but I do believe that life can be a lot easier when we start figuring out why we’ve made the choices we’ve made and then have the power to make new choices as a result.
Are you longing to stray off of the path that you’ve been walking for a while? Have you strayed from something that mattered to you and are longing to return?
Come, take a wander with me. Let us wonder at the natural world, and ourselves as part of it.
Internal Family Systems Therapy
An intuitive, individual therapy model based on the principles of family systems therapy. Each of us has different parts within us, and they often have things they are trying to tell us. The better we get at knowing and working with our parts, the better we are able to make decisions from our true selves and not be controlled by our parts.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Our interpretation of a situation impacts how we feel and behave, and often our first thought about a situation is not based on reality, but based on fear. As we learn to challenge our reactions, we can more easily choose alternative thoughts that guide us to more helpful beliefs and behaviors.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the act of noticing our mind has wandered from the present and bringing it back to what we want to focus on. Using mindfulness to detach from our thoughts and judgments about our situations, and redirect our mind to the present moment, can decrease stress hormones, and lead to better mental health outcomes. Eventually, with regular practice, it becomes easier for us to be present and grounded, rather than driven by anxiety.
