I use play and nature-informed interventions to help you
access your inner child.
Why Play in Nature?
I have been working in the outdoor mental health field since 2015. While studying to be a recreational therapist, I began working in outdoor settings with young people struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, and more. We would hike, sing, tell stories, and be our unbridled and wild versions of ourselves through play.
Living outdoors in community accelerated healing and growth. It taught us self-efficacy, the belief that you can succeed at what you try. Tapping into the biological shifts that come from being outdoors led to huge improvements in mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I want everyone to have this same experience, which is why I started Mid-Atlantic Nature Therapy.
Come back to your true sense of self, when the world was new.
You are welcome here.
I have been working with teens and young adults since the beginning, but I also have experience working with people of all ages, including children and older adults. I support and affirm the queer community. I also support and affirm people with all levels of religiosity, from actively religious, to formerly religious, never religious, and those just trying to figure it all out. You are welcome to my practice whoever you are, regardless of whomever and how many people you love, race, age, ability, documentation status, and more.
Mission & Vision
For hundreds of thousands of years, humans and human ancestors roamed the land being present to the moment they were in and the land to which they were a part. People are nature, regardless of how much modern civilization tries to tell the myth that we are separate and tries to tame that which is wild in the land and in us. At Mid-Atlantic Nature Therapy, my mission is to remove this illusion of separateness by creating opportunities for people to connect with their natural, wild, intuitive, and instinctual selves, the natural world, and the community at large through play, nature-informed therapy, groups and retreats.
F.A.Q
You don't have an office? So then how do you meet with people?
We meet at a predetermined outdoor location in the Montgomery County, MD area. The exceptions to this are (a) initial assessment sessions, which are held virtually while we get to know each other, and (b) events or groups that may be held in other areas.
What if the weather is bad?
Comfort with discomfort is one of the most helpful characteristics of good mental health. Life is not always sunshine and rainbows, and neither is the trail! This being said we want to be safe. If there is lightning, we will meet virtually instead. If we are already on the trail and there is lightning, we will seek shelter indoors as soon as possible. On wet or hot days, if we decide together that we want to go on the trail for our session, we will make sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing.
